Director: Efe Can Gürcan

Efe Can Gürcan is Associate Dean of Research and Development for the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences at İstinye University. He is also Chair of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration and a faculty member in the Department of International Relations, İstinye University. He serves as Director of the Center for Belt and Road Studies at Istinye University and Research Associate at the University of Manitoba’s Geopolitical Economy Research Group. Gürcan completed his undergraduate education in International Relations at Koç University. He received his master’s degree in International Studies from the University of Montréal and earned his PhD in Sociology from Simon Fraser University. He speaks English, French, Spanish and Turkish. His publications include three books as well as more than 30 articles and book chapters on international development, international conflict and international institutions, with a geographical focus on Latin America and the Middle East. 

 

Executive Board:

Suat Eren Özyiğit holds a B.A. in Political Science and Public Administration from Bilkent University and an M.A. in International Relations and Public Policy from Bilkent University. He earned his Ph.D. in Political Science and International Relations from Yeditepe University. He specializes in Turkish Political History and Foreign Policy. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Turkish Martyrs' Cemetery and the Scientific and Administrative Board of the Gallipoli Campaigning Research Institute.

Fatih Kiraz completed his undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at Dokuz Eylül University, his master's degree at Boğaziçi University and his PhD in the field of Finance at Boğaziçi University. Dr.Kiraz spent the term of 2007-2008 as an invited researcher at Yale University, studying on Chaos Theory and Finance. After returning to Turkey, Kiraz took part in various positions/projects as a researcher and instructor in institutions such as Boğaziçi University, Capital Markets Board of Turkey, and Central Securities Depository of Turkey. Dr.Kiraz, who is also the founder of a still active consulting, education and software company, is an academic member of Istinye University and Head of Business Administration Department.

Esra Bayhantopçu completed a joint international PhD study program and graduated from Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne University (Political Science Department) and Galatasaray University (Media and Communication Studies Department) in 2017. While she was doing her PhD research at Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne University, she stayed in Paris between 2014-2016 with the support of Tübitak International PhD Fellowship Program and successfully completed her doctoral thesis on the subject of ‘marriage of underage girls problem in Turkey and its media discourse analysis on Turkish print and social media’. In the spring semester of 2018, she gave lectures at Bahçeşehir University as a visiting lecturer for the Master's Programme. Esra Bayhantopçu completed her master degree in Marketing Communication at Galatasaray University (2010) and her bachelor’s degree in Management Department at Dokuz Eylül University (2004). Aside from her academic life, she has been working in professional business life since 2005. During her academic studies, she has also been working as a consultant in the field of Corporate Sustainability since 2010. She is among the first sustainability consultants of Turkey in this field and provides consultancy to leading national and international companies on corporate sustainability strategies, process management, and reporting. Her academic expertise is in the fields of sustainability, media and communication, gender and children's rights.

Tayfun Utas graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA degree from Istanbul University. He also holds a MSc degree in Production Management from Istanbul University and a PhD in Administration from Okan University He performed the leadership and application of many projects about Production Compound Systems and Total Productive Management (TPM). He holds a "JIPM Instructor" certificate issued by the JIPM Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance. He was awarded the ’World TPM’’ prize. He trained Lean Sigma applicants at the Chamber of Mechanical Engineering, the Istanbul Chamber of Industry and various companies and he delivered lectures about TPM and Lean Sigma. With the Istanbul Chamber of Industry, he co-published manuals about TPM and 5S for SMEs. Dr. Utas also has a Six Sigma Black Belt certificate, and has directed many projects since 2012. He started his business life in 1988 as a chief of production in a private corporation and worked as a manager in different units of private corporations between 1991 and 2017. Dr. Utas works as an Operations Director in an international private company.

 

Visiting Researchers: 

Dominik Pietzcker, Professor

Since 2012, Dominik Pietzcker, Dr. phil., is a full-time professor at Macromedia University of Applied Sciences, Hamburg and Berlin Campuses and a member of the Media Faculty. He studied comparative German literature, philosophy and history at the University of Freiburg/Br., Trinity College, Dublin, and in Vienna. From 1996-2010, he worked as a creative director for political institutions (E.U., the German government's, Federal Press Department) and taught at Universität der Künste (UdK) Berlin, Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft (HTW) Berlin and Technische Universität (TU) Dresden. Since 2014, he is an honorary juror at the Foundation of German Entrepreneurs (Stiftung der Deutschen Wirtschaft, SDW). Since 2017, he holds lectures at universities in China, at Zheijang University City College (Hangzhou) and Tongji University (Shanghai). He publishes regularly on intercultural, Sino-German, and socio-economic topics.

Binoy Kampmark, Senior Lecturer


Dr. Binoy Kampmark was a Commonwealth Scholar at Selwyn College, Cambridge. He lectures at RMIT University, Melbourne and is a contributing editor to Counterpunch Magazine. He is also an associate of the Nautilus Institute of Security and Sustainability (San Francisco) and a member of the human securities program at Royal Roads University, Canada.

Luis Kato Maldonado, Professor

Luis Kato Maldonado is Senior Professor Researcher in the Department of Economics at UAM- Azcapotzalco. He completed his undergraduate education in Economics at UAM-A, received his master’s degree in Economics, with specialization Political Economy of Science and Technology from UNAM, and earned his Ph.D. in Economics from National Autonomous University of Mex- ico. He published several research articles as an experienced national researcher.

Guadalupe Huerta Moreno, Professor

Guadalupe Huerta Moreno is Professor Researcher in the Department of Business Administra- tion of Metropolitan Autonomous University-Azcapotzalco. She completed her undergraduate education in Business Administration at Metropolitan Autonomous University-Azcapotzalco. She earned her PhD in Economics from National Autonomous University of Mexico. She is a member of the research project PAPIIT (2020) at National Autonomous University of Mexico. She has several publications, awards, and honors as a national researcher candidate.

Yang Chen, Assistant Professor

Yang Chen is Assistant Professor in the Department of History of Shanghai University’s College of Liberal Arts and Executive Director of the Center for Turkish Studies at Shanghai University. He has published two books about Turkey and several papers in journals such as World Religious Culture West Asia and Africa Arab World Research and China Social Science Today. His main areas of research are political Islamic movements in Turkey, party politics in Turkey, Turkey’s foreign policy, and China-Turkey relations.
